Thoughts and Comments from Man-Up April 2014

The Men God Created Us to Be

With Father John Acrea

April 15, 2014 at All Saints, Des Moines

Man-Up Holy Week 2014

60 Men participating in our first ever Man-Up at All Saints Parish in Des Moines on Tuesday, April 15th. The All Saints Knights of Columbus led our Rosary. Father Bob Harris and Father John Acrea concelebrated Mass with us. Father Harris encouraged us to live out our calling to Discipleship.

The All Saints Knights served us an outstanding pasta dinner with deserts and beverages.

Our video was a very personal take on Good Friday by the Skit Guys. It can be found here.

Father Acrea's presentation on archetypes called us to reflection on our past actions and called us to a new commitment to Man-Up for Jesus Christ. Here are a few of the archetypes Father referenced: Leader, Father, King, Warrior, Lover, Sage, Wiseman, Miracle Worker. Father provided us the following list of books and CDs on this and related subjects.

Books

  • Awakening the Heroes Within: Twelve Archetypes to Help Us Find Ourselves and Transform Our World – Carol S. Pearson
  • Wildmen, Warriors, and Kings: Masculine Spirituality and the Bible – Patrick M. Arnold
  • King, Warrior, Magician, Lover: Rediscovering the Archetypes of the Mature Masculine – Robert Moore and Douglas Gillette
  • Waking the Dead: The Glory of a Heart Fully Alive – John Eldredge
  • Loose That Man & Let Him Go! – T. D. Jakes

CDs

Based on the response we received, many men left this event with a renewed commitment to live as Dynamic Catholic men.

Thanks to Father Harris and All Saints Parish, Dennis Westover and the All Saints Knights of Columbus, Father Acrea and for all the Men that joined us in prayer and fellowship.

Photos of the evening can be found on our Facebook page.

A video of Fr. Acrea’s presentation can be found on YouTube.

He is Risen!

The Man-Up Mission

Man-Up is a Catholic fellowship group that seeks to inspire all men of Central Iowa to be faith-driven leaders in their family, parish, and community.

We sponsor meaningful and heartfelt talks from down-to-earth speakers who are authentic in their faith. In this way we minister to the entire spectrum of men by motivating those who are young in their faith, and encouraging those who are mature.

Man-Up meets monthly at parishes around Des Moines for a meal, presentation, discussion, and fellowship.
